Studio 4 is an education services company that originally began as a
professional recording studio. Studio 4 has also developed a
web-based/student-operated record label and learning community known as
Another Level Records Worldwide.
In 1996, Studio 4 created High School for Recording Arts (HSRA), a 501
(c)(3) independent charter school, with 15 students and two rooms. Now in
its eighth year of operation, HSRA has continued to be managed by Studio 4.
Under Studio 4's leadership, HSRA has grown to an enrollment of more than 200
students and a staff of 23, with an annual budget of more than $1.5 million.
Studio 4 has been particularly successful in operating HSRA fiscally with no
year ending in operating debt or use of a credit line for the entirety of
its existence.
Studio 4 has also formulated an educational program modeled on the Community
Learning Model that incorporates aspects of project/community based learning
and urban learning concepts into a specialized studio program. This unique
coming together of various pedagogies and learning factors has led to the
success of many HSRA students, as evidenced by higher than expected
attendance and graduation rates, parent and student satisfaction surveys and
student achievement as compared to traditional school district counterparts
of similar academic and demographic backgrounds.
Studio 4 also provides consulting and technical services to a
number of educational organizations based around the areas of expertise
described above.
