Studio 4's education program embodies the principles and values of the Community Learning Center model, which focuses on
brain-based learning. The academic, intellectual, emotional and social growth of each child is nurtured in this alternative,
whole-child paradigm. The four knowledge-based themes of the Urban Learner Framework are addressed (cultural, economic and
language diversity, resilience, enhancing ability through motivation and effort, and unrecognized ability and underdeveloped
potential), and this model is especially effective in serving a high-risk population, although it is completely applicable to
all students. Each student has an advisor, who will be intricately involved in the student's school and home life throughout
their tenure at the program. The student and the advisor create a personal learning plan that is revisited often and becomes
a virtual roadmap to both graduation and post-secondary plans of being a productive worker, responsible citizen, life-long
learner and a college-ready student. Learners graduate by demonstrating proficiency and growth in a number of learning areas,
and their success is demonstrated in a portfolio containing summaries of learning experiences, comments by validators, and samples
of their work. This allows the educational program to be results-based and highly individualized, while remaining true to certain
principles and academic expectations. |

Studio 4's music program is student centered. Rather than force the student
to learn music in a prescriptive way, we strive to find the musical spark
that is driving the student towards music in the first place and then build
off of it. This can mean learning a song from the radio before they even
know where middle C is on the keyboard. It's through the process of
learning that song that the student is made aware of notes and keys and
chords. And it is also through this process that students begin to
recognize the inherent value of knowing chords and harmony as it gives them
even greater access to the music around them.
Studio 4 provides studio management to the High School for Recording Arts
and helps other organizations plan, purchase and implement their own
studios. Studio 4 is also involved in a new music education distance
learning and community Web site project called Another Level Records
Worldwide that will launch in 2005. Finally, Studio 4 has a staff of music
producers and engineers that work on recording projects for organizations
from around the world.
